Critical Thinking...

First, some business to clear up:

1.) Here is my schedule for blogging...EVERY TUESDAY & FRIDAY! Despite my critics, I WILL produce them on schedule and worth while.
2.) Ill take 3 mulligans (computer crash, death, leprosy, etc...) and no more.
3.) Tuesday posts will be an evening read due to all day class (and probably a little shorter) and Friday posts will be viewable all day because...well im jus that good.

Now on to the body of this masterpiece...

As the clock struck midnight on Tuesday, January 1, the New Year had officially begun. while many people were busy poppin' champagne or making out-this day really didn't mean much more than a lot of drunk people watching football. But once they sober up and turn the calendars, they will find that this year contains a few events that rarely occur. Such events like leap year on Feb 29, Presidential Election is on Nov 4, Mother's Day is on May 11, which is also my cousin Kevin's b-day, Olympics begin August 8, Easter is early this year, lands on March 23, and according to John's calendar, he has a MGT 301 Exam 3. The kicker is, of course the Presidential Election, and as it is approaching, I have a pretty bold statement, "If you don't know, don't vote!" This means if you don't know if Barak Obama is a democrat of republican, then you obviously are oblivious to politics and you shouldn't bother getting the "I voted" sticker. Here in America we are giving this unique privilege to vote on who we want to lead us as a nation, a whole nation. It is unique because there are countries like Iraq and Cuba where public elections are non-existent. Then there is North Korea who basically has the modern-day Hitler government. And Venezuela, where they have "fake" elections where they will kill you if you don't vote for their person. This is just a short list, but clearly you see that we as citizens are given a privilege, NOT JUST A RIGHT!! Don't confuse those two...We shouldn't misuse or abuse this privilege. Think of it this way, if you are going to apply for a "career" job such as a lawyer, would you just become an employee of any Law Firm? NO!! You have spent many many years of your life leading up to this point where you look for that "career" job. So why would you just settle for anyone when you could get the best? Seems foolish huh? You will probably apply for the best Law Firm where you will feel like you are best suited. Maybe you are influenced by outside social forces but you ultimately make that choice. The same is true in politics. If we are going to have one person to represent us and lead us as a nation, why would we settle for just "whoever?" Granted there will be times where the person you vote for will not be elected and you are stuck with someone else, but that is really out of your control. If you don't get that "Career" job at a young age, you wouldn't just quit life and work at Mcd's. Well you may, but you would be settling for less and not living to your intended potential. Most people aren't given things that just land in your lap. you have to go get it and earn what you work for. So in politics, don't take a blind nil, look at your cards and make an educated decision. So DO NOT lay your head down on Nov. 3 with no idea. If you are eligible to vote then use your privilege wisely. Do some FoxNews watching. Know where each candidate stands. See who is pro-life and who is pro-choice. Find out what YOU believe believe is moral and vote on which candidate appeals to YOU. If you go to the booth with one name in mind because you are registered a certain party or because your parents have recommended them, you are wasting your privilege. And maybe that person you vote for doesn't get elected, well, make the best of that term. Suck it up and look for ways to take advantage of that person's positive side. To sum this all up...Vote! but KNOW who you are voting for!

I do not consider myself a fully mature, developed adult by any means, but I have found the need for depth in my life. I have devised up a few areas I'm going to add depth to my life and get rid of the wasteful, bad habits that tend to take over most of my time. One of these areas is understanding my political leaders and their stance. For years I have dogged politics because I had no idea what they were talking about and thus dismissed it altogether. I have a feeling many people my age have done the same thing. I understand that the "college life" is basically two lives because you feel stretched in every direction but, c'mon people, Presidential Elections come every 4 years! So I challenge you and to take this year's election serious and get out from your parents political umbrella and make some choices on your own!

Slow ya life down people! Don't overlook the important things in life...
